Les rencontres du hasard sont celles qui sont le plus surprenantes et c’est complètement vrai aussi quand on voyage. Je ne compte plus le nombre de fois où je me suis arrêtée pour dénicher l’endroit auquel je ne m’attendais pas.

Cette fois encore, je n’ai pas dérogé à la règle. Quelque part entre Santa Barbara et Cambria, le long d’une route passante, tiraillée par la faim, je me suis arrêtée à ce saloon datant de 1880.

L’hôtel a été complètement restauré et sert uniquement lors d’événements privés. On ne peut malheureusement pas y réserver une chambre, il faut louer le bâtiment en entier. Impossible donc de le visiter, mais j’en ai profité pour me ravitailler dans le saloon, qui lui, est toujours en activité pour mon plus grand bonheur.

Il y fait très sombre comme dans tous ces anciens bars. Il s’en dégage cette ambiance western que j’adore particulièrement. Manger dans cette atmosphère étonnante est drôle. Il n’y a pas beaucoup de choix mais les plats sont délicieux.

Les objets ont été chinés et disposés un peu partout pour redonner à ce lieu son cachet ancien. Et cela fonctionne très bien. On s’attend à tout moment à voir entrer un cowboy assoiffé.

Si, par une extraordinaire coïncidence, vous passez à Los Alamos, n’hésitez pas à vous arrêter quelques minutes pour admirer ce saloon.

1880 Union Hotel & Saloon in Los Alamos

Disclaimer: I would like to make it clear that I was not paid and that my opinion is therefore entirely independent.

Chance encounters are often the most surprising, and that is just as true when travelling. I have lost count of the number of times I have stopped somewhere only to discover a place I never expected to find.

Once again, I followed that rule. Somewhere between Santa Barbara and Cambria, beside a busy road and driven by hunger, I stopped at this saloon dating from 1880.

The hotel has been completely restored and is used only for private events. Unfortunately, you cannot book a single room; the entire building has to be rented. Visiting the hotel itself was therefore impossible, but I took the opportunity to refuel in the saloon, which was still operating, much to my delight.

It is very dark inside, like so many old bars. It has that Western atmosphere I particularly love. Eating in such an unusual setting is great fun. There is not a huge choice, but the food is delicious.

The objects were collected and arranged throughout the place to restore its old-fashioned character. And it works extremely well. At any moment, you expect a thirsty cowboy to walk through the door.

If, by some extraordinary coincidence, you happen to pass through Los Alamos, do stop for a few minutes to admire this saloon.
