Situé sur l’île de Yas à Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi est un parc d’attractions entièrement couvert et climatisé, inspiré par les univers Warner Bros. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry ou encore les Pierrafeu s’y côtoient dans un décor particulièrement soigné. Ce n’est peut-être pas le parc où je chercherais les sensations les plus extrêmes, mais il possède un avantage considérable aux Émirats : on peut y passer une journée entière sans se préoccuper de la chaleur extérieure.
Six univers sous un même toit
Dès l’entrée, on est frappé par la qualité des décors. Le parc compte officiellement six univers : Warner Bros. Plaza, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, Cartoon Junction, Gotham City et Metropolis. Warner Bros. Plaza évoque le Hollywood Art déco de l’âge d’or du cinéma, Bedrock nous ramène chez les Pierrafeu, Cartoon Junction rassemble notamment Bugs Bunny et Scooby-Doo, tandis que Gotham et Metropolis plongent évidemment dans l’univers des super-héros DC.
J’avais décrit le parc comme relativement petit. Le mot est finalement assez mal choisi : Warner Bros. World se présente aujourd’hui comme le plus grand parc à thème indoor au monde et annonce plus de 30 attractions et expériences. Ce que je voulais surtout dire, c’est qu’il est beaucoup plus facile et agréable à parcourir que certains parcs gigantesques où l’on passe une partie de sa journée à marcher d’un univers à l’autre. Ici, tout est regroupé sous un même toit et la visite reste très fluide.
Moi, j’ai passé une bonne partie de ma journée à me prendre en photo avec tous les personnages. Lors de notre visite, contrairement aux parcs avec la Souris, nous n’avons pratiquement pas dû faire la file pour ces rencontres. Évidemment, l’affluence peut varier selon le jour et la saison, mais cette facilité avait largement contribué à mon plaisir.
Des attractions familiales… mais pas seulement
L’article original citait « Batman: The Ride » et « Superman: Ultimate Flight », deux noms qui ne correspondent pas aux attractions de Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. Autant les remplacer par ce que le parc propose réellement — et il y a de quoi faire. Batman: Knight Flight vous embarque dans un prototype de Batmobile pour une succession de chutes, montées, rotations et accélérations ; Scarecrow Scare Raid ajoute son lot de tonneaux et de mouvements acrobatiques ; et Justice League: Warworld Attacks est une attraction 5D où l’on rejoint Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman et leurs alliés pour affronter Mongul.
À cela s’ajoutent Fast and Furry-ous, une montagne russe inversée inspirée de Bip Bip et Coyote, The Flintstones Bedrock River Adventure, Ani-Mayhem et de nombreuses attractions destinées aux enfants. Le parc continue par ailleurs d’évoluer : Kryptonite Collider a rejoint récemment Metropolis. Il serait donc dommage de résumer Warner Bros. World à un parc uniquement destiné aux petits.
Pour les passionnés de Warner Bros.
Pour les fans de l’univers Warner Bros., le plaisir vient autant des décors que des attractions. Gotham change complètement d’atmosphère par rapport à Cartoon Junction ou Bedrock ; Metropolis est baignée dans une lumière de coucher de soleil permanent ; Warner Bros. Plaza joue la carte du vieux Hollywood. Les personnages, les boutiques et les restaurants prolongent chaque univers et donnent réellement l’impression de passer d’un dessin animé ou d’un film à l’autre.
Les boutiques méritent d’ailleurs qu’on s’y attarde : DC Super Heroes Store pour Batman, Superman et Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny & Co. pour les Looney Tunes, Bedrock Boutique pour les Pierrafeu ou encore Treasure of Hollywood pour des souvenirs un peu plus sophistiqués. Bref, difficile de repartir les mains vides si vous aimez cet univers.
Le mot de la fin
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi reste pour moi un parc particulièrement agréable. Il est familial sans être exclusivement enfantin, spectaculaire sans être épuisant et, surtout, entièrement climatisé — détail qui prend une toute autre importance lorsque les températures d’Abu Dhabi s’envolent. On peut très facilement y consacrer une journée complète.
Et puis il y a ce que les fiches techniques ne racontent pas : se retrouver nez à nez avec Batman, Bugs Bunny ou Scooby-Doo et retomber quelques minutes en enfance. C’est probablement cela que je retiens le plus de Warner Bros. World. Les attractions évoluent, de nouvelles arrivent, mais la magie du parc réside surtout dans cette immersion.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi: a Magical Escape for the Whole Family
Located on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is a fully indoor, climate-controlled theme park inspired by the Warner Bros. universe. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny, Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry and The Flintstones all coexist here amid remarkably detailed sets. It may not be the park I would choose purely in search of the most extreme thrills, but it has one enormous advantage in the Emirates: you can spend an entire day inside without worrying about the heat outdoors.
Six worlds under one roof
As soon as you enter, the quality of the theming is striking. The park officially comprises six lands: Warner Bros. Plaza, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, Cartoon Junction, Gotham City and Metropolis. Warner Bros. Plaza evokes the Art Deco Hollywood of cinema’s golden age, Bedrock takes you back to The Flintstones, Cartoon Junction brings together characters including Bugs Bunny and Scooby-Doo, while Gotham and Metropolis naturally plunge you into the DC superhero universe.
I originally described the park as relatively small. In fact, that is not a particularly accurate choice of words: Warner Bros. World now describes itself as the world’s largest indoor theme park and advertises more than 30 rides and experiences. What I really meant was that it feels much easier and more pleasant to explore than some enormous theme parks where a sizeable part of the day is spent simply walking from one world to another. Here, everything is gathered beneath one roof and the visit feels remarkably manageable.
I spent a good part of my day having photographs taken with all the characters. During our visit, unlike at the parks with the Mouse, we barely had to queue for these encounters. Naturally, crowds vary according to the day and season, but that ease contributed enormously to my enjoyment.
Family rides… but not only for children
The original article mentioned “Batman: The Ride” and “Superman: Ultimate Flight”, names that do not correspond to attractions at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. The park’s actual line-up is far more interesting. Batman: Knight Flight puts you aboard a prototype Batmobile for a sequence of drops, climbs, rolls and acceleration; Scarecrow Scare Raid adds barrel rolls and acrobatic movement; while Justice League: Warworld Attacks is a 5D adventure in which you join Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and their allies in a battle against Mongul.
There is also Fast and Furry-ous, an inverted roller coaster inspired by Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, The Flintstones Bedrock River Adventure, Ani-Mayhem and numerous attractions aimed at younger children. The park continues to evolve too: Kryptonite Collider has recently joined Metropolis. It would therefore be unfair to describe Warner Bros. World simply as a park for little ones.
For Warner Bros. fans
For fans of the Warner Bros. universe, the pleasure comes as much from the sets as from the rides. Gotham has an entirely different atmosphere from Cartoon Junction or Bedrock; Metropolis is bathed in a permanent sunset glow; Warner Bros. Plaza plays with old Hollywood glamour. Characters, shops and restaurants extend the individual worlds and genuinely make you feel as though you are stepping from one cartoon or film into another.
The shops are worth exploring too: DC Super Heroes Store for Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny & Co. for Looney Tunes, Bedrock Boutique for The Flintstones and Treasure of Hollywood for slightly more sophisticated keepsakes. In short, leaving empty-handed can be difficult if you love this universe.
A final word
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi remains, for me, a particularly enjoyable theme park. It is family-friendly without being exclusively for children, spectacular without being exhausting and, above all, fully air-conditioned — a detail that becomes rather more important when Abu Dhabi’s temperatures soar. You can very easily devote a full day to it.
And then there is what the technical descriptions cannot convey: suddenly finding yourself face to face with Batman, Bugs Bunny or Scooby-Doo and becoming a child again for a few minutes. That is probably what I remember most about Warner Bros. World. Rides evolve and new ones arrive, but the real magic lies in the immersion.
