Je suis récemment revenue d’un voyage en Chine, où j’ai eu la chance de séjourner dans ce qui est, selon moi, l’un des plus beaux hôtels du pays : Amanfayun. Ce n’était pas un simple lieu de passage, mais une véritable immersion dans le luxe, la culture et la tranquillité. Caché dans une vallée boisée de Hangzhou, entouré de plantations de thé et d’anciens temples bouddhistes, Amanfayun ressemble davantage à un village préservé qu’à un hôtel traditionnel.
Une Première Impression Majestueuse
Dès mon arrivée, j’ai été frappée par l’architecture et surtout par l’impression d’être entrée dans un autre monde. Amanfayun s’organise autour de chemins de pierre, de cours ombragées et d’anciennes habitations dont certaines ont plus d’un siècle. Restaurées dans le respect des techniques et matériaux traditionnels, elles se fondent dans un environnement de théiers, de bambous et de forêt. L’accueil chaleureux et attentionné a immédiatement donné le ton au reste du séjour.
Un Confort Luxueux
Ma chambre était tout simplement somptueuse. Le charme d’Amanfayun tient précisément à ce mélange entre architecture traditionnelle et confort contemporain : bois, pierre, lignes sobres, atmosphère feutrée et vues sur les cours, le village ou la forêt selon les hébergements. Chaque soir, en revenant d’une journée d’exploration, j’avais l’impression de retrouver un cocon de calme et de raffinement. Ici, le luxe ne cherche pas à impressionner par l’ostentation ; il se trouve surtout dans l’espace, le silence et la sensation d’être ailleurs.
Une Gastronomie d’Exception
L’une des expériences les plus mémorables de mon séjour a été la découverte de la cuisine proposée à Amanfayun. Le domaine compte plusieurs lieux où manger le long de Fayun Pathway, et cette dispersion participe au sentiment de séjourner dans un véritable village. Chaque repas devenait ainsi une découverte supplémentaire, dans une atmosphère très éloignée de celle d’un grand hôtel classique.
Activités et Bien-être
Amanfayun permet aussi de se rapprocher de la culture et de la nature environnantes. Le resort se trouve au cœur d’un ancien circuit de pèlerinage comprenant sept temples bouddhistes et à proximité du célèbre temple Lingyin. Des activités culturelles sont proposées à Fayun Place, tandis que le spa s’inspire des traditions chinoises de santé et de bien-être. Le cadre, entre bambous, théiers et magnolias, semble avoir été conçu pour ralentir naturellement le rythme.
Un Havre de Paix
Ce séjour restera gravé dans ma mémoire comme l’une des expériences les plus relaxantes et enrichissantes de ma vie. Amanfayun n’était pas seulement un lieu où dormir, mais un véritable havre de paix, un endroit où l’on peut se déconnecter du monde extérieur et se recentrer sur l’essentiel. En partant, j’ai eu un pincement au cœur, comme si je quittais un petit paradis. C’est un endroit où l’on se promet de revenir. Si vous cherchez en Chine une expérience où le luxe se marie réellement à la tradition et à la nature, Amanfayun fait partie de ces lieux que l’on n’oublie pas.

I recently returned from a trip to China, where I had the chance to stay at what is, in my view, one of the country’s most beautiful hotels: Amanfayun. It was not simply somewhere to sleep, but a genuine immersion in luxury, culture and tranquillity. Hidden in a wooded valley in Hangzhou, surrounded by tea fields and ancient Buddhist temples, Amanfayun feels far more like a preserved village than a conventional hotel.
A majestic first impression
From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the architecture and, above all, by the feeling of having entered another world. Amanfayun unfolds along stone pathways, shaded courtyards and historic dwellings, some of them more than a century old. Restored using traditional techniques and materials, they blend into a landscape of tea bushes, bamboo and woodland. The warm, attentive welcome immediately set the tone for the rest of my stay.
Luxurious comfort
My room was simply sumptuous. Amanfayun’s charm lies precisely in the meeting of traditional architecture and contemporary comfort: wood, stone, understated lines, a hushed atmosphere and views over courtyards, the village or forest depending on the accommodation. Each evening, returning after a day of exploring, felt like coming back to a cocoon of calm and refinement. Luxury here is not about ostentation; it is found in space, silence and the wonderful sensation of being somewhere apart.
Exceptional dining
One of the most memorable parts of my stay was discovering the food at Amanfayun. The resort has several places to eat along Fayun Pathway, and having them scattered through the property adds to the feeling that you are staying in a genuine village. Every meal therefore became another discovery, in an atmosphere far removed from that of a conventional grand hotel.
Activities and wellbeing
Amanfayun also offers a wonderful connection with the surrounding culture and nature. The resort lies within an ancient pilgrimage circuit of seven Buddhist temples and close to the celebrated Lingyin Temple. Cultural activities are offered at Fayun Place, while the spa draws inspiration from Chinese health and wellbeing traditions. Surrounded by bamboo, tea bushes and magnolia trees, the setting seems almost designed to make you slow down naturally.
A haven of peace
This stay will remain in my memory as one of the most relaxing and rewarding experiences of my life. Amanfayun was not merely somewhere to stay, but a genuine haven of peace, a place where you can disconnect from the outside world and return to what matters. Leaving gave me that little pang you feel when walking away from a private paradise. It is the sort of place you promise yourself you will return to. If you are looking for an experience in China where luxury genuinely meets tradition and nature, Amanfayun is one of those places you do not forget.
