J’ai plusieurs fois visité le Grand Canyon, mais c’est la première fois que j’ai emprunté le train depuis la petite ville de Williams. Habituellement, nous prenons la voiture et après quelques heures de route, arrivons au village de Tusayan à l’entrée du Canyon South Rim, côté que je préfère pour son côté sauvage.
Cette fois nous avons logé dans le Grand Canyon Hotel où un spectacle sur l’Ouest américain est proposé aux passagers du train juste après un copieux petit déjeuner au Grand Depot Café. Un divertissement rempli d’humour et de savoureux jeux de mots (compréhension de l’américain absolument nécessaire) mêle le comique de situation et l’histoire des cowboys et leur amour des armes.
Environ 30 minutes plus tard, embarquement vers le Grand Canyon.
Nous avons choisi la première classe afin de pouvoir profiter au maximum des paysages de l’Arizona et de la tranquillité des lieux. Votre billet de train vous donne également droit à un buffet avec boissons à volonté.
Durant les 2 heures du trajet, vous pourrez vous resservir de muffins, crackers, fromages ou fruits.
Des boissons alcoolisées sont en vente pour ceux qui le souhaitent.
Vous aurez également à votre disposition un chef de wagon qui vous régalera de ses succulentes histoires sur les voleurs et détrousseurs de voyageurs et sur la magnifique nature environnante. Votre guide vous apprendra des anecdotes sur le Grand Canyon. Vous ne verrez pas le temps passer…
Arrivé à Grand Canyon Depot, un bus attendra ceux qui ont réservé une visite plus approfondie.
N’ayez crainte, vous disposerez de suffisamment de temps pour flâner dans le village du Grand Canyon et faire peur à votre mère parce que vous êtes trop près du bord du précipice ! J’adore faire ça, même si ce n’est pas sympa.
Au retour vous croiserez sans nul doute la route des bandits de grands chemins qui vous allègeront de quelques dollars en échange de votre vie.
En conclusion, sans doute un peu cher si vous optez en plus pour une nuit à Williams comme nous l’avons fait (970 dollars pour deux). Par contre, si vous êtes à la recherche d’une manière originale de visiter une des plus belles merveilles du monde, alors vous êtes au bon endroit.

The Grand Canyon
I have visited the Grand Canyon several times, but this was the first time I had taken the train from the small town of Williams. Usually, we drive and, after a few hours on the road, arrive in the village of Tusayan at the entrance to the South Rim of the Canyon, the side I prefer for its wild character.
This time we stayed at the Grand Canyon Hotel, where a show about the American West is put on for train passengers just after a hearty breakfast at the Grand Depot Café. Full of humour and delicious wordplay (a good understanding of American English is absolutely essential), the entertainment combines situational comedy with the history of cowboys and their love of guns.
About 30 minutes later, it is time to board for the Grand Canyon.
We chose first class so that we could make the most of Arizona’s scenery and the tranquillity of the surroundings. Your train ticket also includes a buffet with unlimited drinks.
During the two-hour journey, you can help yourself to more muffins, crackers, cheese or fruit.
Alcoholic drinks are available for those who want them.
You will also have a carriage attendant who will entertain you with wonderful stories about thieves and highway robbers, as well as the magnificent nature surrounding you. Your guide will tell you anecdotes about the Grand Canyon. You will not notice the time passing…
On arrival at Grand Canyon Depot, a bus will be waiting for those who have booked a more extensive tour.
Don’t worry, you will have plenty of time to wander around Grand Canyon Village and frighten your mother because you are standing far too close to the edge of the precipice! I love doing that, even if it isn’t very nice.
On the return journey, you will almost certainly cross paths with highwaymen who will relieve you of a few dollars in exchange for your life.
In conclusion, it is undoubtedly a little expensive if, like us, you also opt for a night in Williams ($970 for two). On the other hand, if you are looking for an original way to visit one of the most beautiful wonders of the world, then you have come to the right place.
